SCRIPTS

Title:  Look No Further
Classification:  Biblical Drama, adult or youth
Synopsis:  Jesus comes to see John the Baptist as he contemplates beginning his minstry.  The cousins have established a curious rappor, based on arcane knowledge of the prophets and keen insight into their meaning.  Later, during his ministry, Jesus receives news that John has been imprisoned, prompting his famous Scriptural tribute to the Baptist.
Length:  30 minutes.

Title:  In the Presence of Mine Enemies
Classification:  Biblical Drama, adult or youth
Synopsis:  Though a man after God's own heart, King David is a strange fellow whose behavior drives his wife Mical nuts.  It's bad enough that he chases after other women, but when Nathan reveals the lengths to which David goes, Mical is astonished.  In his later years, as Joab defies his instructions regarding Absolom, David recalls his early days at the table of King Saul.  A meditation on the Easter sacrifice.

Title:  King to Knight's Pawn
Classification:  Allegorical Biblical Drama, adult
Synopsis:  The King has long been absent, and the care of the kingdom has been left to the Steward.  Years pass, and the battle with the Enemy waxes stronger as one fiefdom after another must decide allegiance to the King, or to his enemy.  Meanwhile, those of the kingdom vary in their commitment to the cause, and in their understanding of how the battle should be fought.  Some die in the cause.  When the King returns unlooked for, the mighty and the lowly both struggle to understand the King's justice.

Title:  Of Might and Men
Classification:  Light Biblical Drama, adult or youth
Synopsis:  The story of Moses is well known.  What is not so well known is the story of the women behind Moses: his mother, Jochebed; his adopted mother, Asenath; and his sister, Miriam.  This short play features a hilarious retelling of Moses' encounter with God on Mount Horeb.
Length:  30 minutes.

Title:  Balaam's Star
Classification:  Light Christmas Drama, all ages
Synopsis:  An old man returns to Bethlehem some thirty years after the census of Caesar Augustus.  There he encounters a little girl named Mary, and recounts to her the story of how the Magi from the East first came to Bethlehem, and what they found there.
Length:  20 minutes.

Title:  5 Good Friday Monologues
Classification:  Biblical Drama, adult
Synopsis:  The Easter Story from the point of view of John, Judas, The Centurion, Mary the Mother of Jesus, and Mary the wife of Clopas.

Title:  An X-Mas Carol; or Can We Take the Christ out of Christmas?
Classification:  Light Christmas drama, mixed adult and juvenile
Synopsis:  The church's Christmas pageant is saddled with a script which tries to mix Dickens and Scripture, as well as an assistant who likes to speak Spanish for no particular reason.  We see the production from the back-stage view, warts and all.
Length:  45 minutes.

Title:  Mary Had a Little Lamb (sequel to "An X-Mas Carol," above)
Classification:  Light Christmas drama, mixed adult and juvenile
Synopsis:  This year, the producer of the church Christmas pageant has arranged for the aloof artists Eli and Amos to direct; and Nell, the AD with a yen for Spanish, once again assists.  Their pre-production arguments visualize the different ways the Nativity might be combined with the classic nursery rhyme.  A clever way to tie the Easter story into Christmas.

Title:  A Silent Tongue

Synopsis:  Zecharias and Elizabeth muse about the significance of their supernatural encounters, amidst the backdrop of the Messiah's genealogical heritage.

Synopsis:  A very strange salesperson visits a modern corporation to pitch the new group health care plan: one based on faith, with no promise of seeing benfits in our lifetime.

Title:  If Women Hunted

Synopsis:  Four women struggle to come to grips with the outdoors, and the rigors of killing for food.

Synopsis:  A job applicant at the Hot 'n' Tot Special Teas Company has an interview with a very strange supervisor.  A Pythonesque one-punchline sketch.

Synopsis:  Five clueless men meet with this year's VBS director to discuss crafts projects.

Synopsis:  In 1962, Jesus Christ died on a cross in Philadelphia.  Years later, his followers have come under persecution.  In Kansas City, two members of IU Central are sent to infiltrate a group of "Christians" who are taking it to the next level: preaching to the Gentiles.  Part One of a serial drama examining what vital first-century Christian faith might look like in today's world.
